In the mood for some hearts and flowers, my darlings? Well, here you go. Nobody is more swoon-worthy than our dear Mr. Thornton. Oh, what he says with those eyes, and that smile and those beautiful hands . . . sometimes actions do speak louder, far louder than words.

The way he looks at her…yummy!!
He makes love to her with his eyes… Does anybody else think RA may have had a little crush on DDA while filming?
I think that Richard must have had a crush on Daniela. I love what he says during the interview where he talks about working with Daniela on North & South. He enjoyed the kissing all day part when both were called back to re-shoot the ending. He also talks of the chemistry between the two. Richard said it was as if only the two of them were in the room. Even the way Richard spook Daniela’s name it sounds to me as if he is caressing her name in his mouth. I would have been happy if they did become an item and got married in real life. I even liked him with Dawn French, but for some reason I could not stand to see him with Sarah Caulfield. That really irritated me and I was glad when it turned out that Sarah’s character was really less than honorable and their relationship started to break down. Yet with Daniela and Dawn I cheered them on and felt more like an approving mother. I cannot even begin to analyze that. I wonder if is because Margaret and the Vicar were such virtuous women and Sarah I thought was an easy bed partner. I am addicted to love and romance and I saw none of that with Sarah Caulfield. Instead I saw two people who were simply very sexually attracted to one another and satisfied those urgings. Lust and great sex is often mistaken for love.
During the last episode of Spooks for Richard when he is John Bateman I was very sorry for him when that girlfriend passed away in his arms. The cry that Richard gave out sounded like it came from the depths of his soul.
I think part of the problem with Sarah Caulfield (beyond that absolutely atrocious would-be American accent) is that there was absolutely no chemistry there. Richard has said you can manufacture chemistry, and certainly there have been actors partnered onscreen that sizzled who didn’t even like each other in real life.
However, it needs to be created by BOTH parties. Richard did his very best, but it remained a mystery to the audience as to why Lucas fell for this particular woman.
She was a cold, hard creature, and sorry, but her looks were simply not so breathtaking that he’d be completely captivated by them regardless of her other qualities.
It make Lucas look rather stupid, and Lucas was many things, but stupid was not one of them. And that’s what frustrated me so much. I was excited initially to know Lucas was getting a romantic partner, because the poor man had been through hell for eight years and needed some love and affection. But Sarah, as envisioned by the showrunners and performed by GOR, simply wasn’t what he needed.
OMG, Richard plays this scene so well, and without speaking a word…the love, the tenderness in his eyes as he looks at her, and when he takes her hand…*sigh* the most romantic scene I have ever watched. I’d love to know just how much direction he was given.
It would be interesting to know how much of it was due to the direction he was given and how much RA himself inserted into the scene. He expresses his feelings so clearly without saying a word. You could watch this scene without having seen any of the rest of the production and you would know this man loves this woman so deeply, so tenderly. It is extremely, headily, magnificently romantic.
Well said, Angie.
The ending of N&S is one of the most romantic scenes I have ever seen filmed. It is right up there with Matthew MacFayden’s interpretation of Mr. Darcy’s proposal to Elizabeth Bennet in the rain.
I think Richard is THE best onscreen kisser I have ever seen. He makes you believe in his kisses. The use of his hands in cupping Daniela’s face is so beautiful.
Mr. John Thornton is the culprit, I say! I blame him for this addiction. Came in one day and stole my heart and decidely has never given it back. I would be his Margaret any time, any day. How RA got it this right, is really the intriquing question. I have often wondered how much of himself did he bring to JT. ANd there my friends, is where the line sometimes gets blurry for me.
Personally I think that Richard is a hard working, modest, intelligent guy but he is not really dedicated (interested?) in finding the great love.
More importand things need to be done!
I think he is very focused on his career and the goals he has set for himself. He has to be dedicated and determined or he would he never have hung in there through the lean years. And his work schedule–long hours and long periods on location–can’t make it easy to maintain a relationship. Although I know a lot of women who would be willing to try it.
See, this is where it might actually help to date a fan. We rarely/never see him in person and yet we still like him and are ready to support him.
My thoughts exactly. I am available. lol
oh…if I were 2 stones..emmm..younger..;)
LOL Joanna!!!
Once again I think you must either be psychic Angie or a mind reader!! Before I went to bed last night I felt compelled to watch the N&S ending as I was in the mood to watch something romantic and it is so very beautiful and it still tugs at my heart strings even though, like many others, I have lost count of the number of times I have watched it!!
Well gracie, Richard did say that he and Daniela had “instant chemistry”; (just check out this piece from RichardArmitageOnline.com)

*sigh* So I’m guessing there was more than a bit of an attraction between them not to mention as he said himself. “It wasn’t difficult to smoulder in scenes with Daniela, because she is so incredibly beautiful. You look at her face and you just want to kiss her.”!! *swoon* I love all the sweet things he has said in various interviews about N&S including the fact that the train station scene still made him “tingle”!! I don’t think I will ever tire of watching N&S even though I dearly love Lucas, JP, Guy and so many other “creations” of his!
I am just very simpatico to my fellow RA lovers.
The director said in the audiocommentary of N&S that the deciding factor of casting RA in the role of JT was the chemistry he had with DDA.
Both the director and the producer remarked on how great DDA and RA looked together and what a handsome couple they made!
