Early fireworks & July 4th greetings

Standard

Tomorrow is a holiday here in the U.S., the celebration of the date our forefathers signed their Declaration of Independence from the mother country back in 1776.

Americans tend to celebrate the 4th of July with barbecues and picnics, trips to the beach and the lake and pyrotechnic displays.

We’ve already had fireworks here thanks to Mother Nature. A couple of fierce thunderstorms moved through tonight bringing some much-needed rain (yay) and high winds that toppled some trees here and there. We are still safe and sound with no power lines down, thankfully.

These folks are Brits, but they’ve decided to become Americans for the Day and celebrate the Glorious Fourth with us at TAE.

  1. Happy 4th of July Angie ! Do Americans have a military parade like in France or Belgium ?
And the 14th of July, French national day, I know you’ll be in good company !!!

    • Thank you. Nadia. In my little hometown, there is an annual event called Celebrate America that was started a few years ago. It has offered festival food, children’s games, live music and a choral presentation, topped off with a fireworks display. A local church holds a celebration the Saturday before July 4 which features a parade of children on festively decorated bikes, trikes, in wagons and on foot around the park in the center of town. There is a fish fry, hot dogs and watermelon, patriotic and gospel music played by local bands, and games for the children. It’s free and open to the entire community. Yes, I had thought about Quatorze Juillet. :D

  2. Oh, there are parades and fireworks displays in many cities and towns. In port cities when the fleet is in, the Navy shows off.

  3. Happy Fourth of July!!! I so do love America. She has her issues but America is still a great place to live. There is such a wonderful spiritual awakening going on here at this time as well. God Bless America and all other countries on earth.

I may sit down later and read the declaration of Independence. It is such a profound document that brings tears to my eyes when I read it. I believe that a Higher Power was in that room as it was being written. It is one of the greatest documents ever to be written in the history of humankind.

    • I really should write a post about my July 4 in Philadelphia, the Cradle of Liberty, a number of years ago . . . that was quite a treat, to visit so many places I had studied in American history, including Valley Forge.

  4. Happy 4th to everyone, both in and out of the USA! We had a lot of “Fireworks” in parts of Virginia as well. Luckily, we escaped them down here in Southern VA. However, driving home from Pittsburgh I saw a great deal of damage to trees. It wasn’t quite as bad as our hurricane last year, but it was similar. I’ll be enjoying a quiet fourth with “fireworks” provided by my new kitten, Buddy. He’s just over 8 weeks old and very lively. Then, when he crashes, he turns into my purring lap cat.

  5. I LOVE visiting Philadelphia. It is so full of American history. Boston, New York and Washington DC are filled with American history as well. Our Richard does look fantastic as Uncle Sam.
