The Many Faces of Sgt. Porter

Standard

Sgt. John Porter. Father. Soldier. Spy. Friend.  Lover. Savior. Hero.  Tough, yet tender. Stoic. Brave. Passionate. Determined. Intense. Resourceful. Ruthless when necessary. And he’s got a sense of humor, too!  And, of course, he’s gorgeous to behold. So much more than  just another muscle head with a gun. A multi-faceted character courtesy of Richard Armitage.

  1. Hey, you flipped #7! Shouldn’t the scar be on the other side of his forehead? :) Lovely pics of course..And no Mr. Dean, it couldn’t be James because you have to be called JOHN at all times, understand???

    • Yeah, I have worked with that image both ways. Sometimes I just want something slightly different to work with. I love the fact his face is not symmetrical. :D At least we know Richard’s character in the film is not, apparently, named John. Which is good considering how the last John turned out. *grumble, grumble*

    • Porter has that effect, doesn’t he? I have to say I really feel as if the people who don’t want to watch SB for–whatever reasons, are missing out on a really great character. And it’s a shame.

      • If it weren’t for Richard I probably wouldn’t have watched it once, let alone umpteen times, but then without Richard, Porter wouldn’t be the hero and man I’m besotted with. I agree, he brings so much to SB that people who haven’t seen it have missed out on.

        • Exactly. Trust me, I would never have stuck with three years of the latest TV incarnation of RH were it not for Richard’s marvelous performance of Guy. I would never have sat through Ultimate Force were if not for Richard as Ian. Whilst I am not anti-action adventure by any means, I doubt I would have been so eager to see SB.

I don’t want to slight the other actors, because there were some good performances there along with strong production values and gorgeous location shots. And while I had my issues with the scripts, I would say it was definitely an improvement on the source material, Ryan’s novel. Still, it was Richard’s portrayal of Porter, all the shadings and nuances he brought to the role, this man who is not just a killing machine when required to be, but is also a loving father, a caring friend, a brave hero, a “good man sent by God,” that cements my belief this is a must-see for any Armitage fan.

Heck, as much as I detest Spooks 9, and I do, I am not sorry I watched the whole torturous thing because Richard worked so hard to craft that transitional character and make it all believable. If a fan can make it through Spooks, they should certainly consider watching SB.

          • I mentioned SB once to a male friend who snorted that it was utter crap. Obviously being a shoot-’em-up action show wasn’t enough, so I don’t know what he was expecting. I could have told him that he had to be an RA fan to truly appreciate it, but I didn’t. ;)

I finally made it all the way to the end of Spooks 9 recently. It was tough going, I was emotionally exhausted and in tears by the finish, but I’m not sorry I pushed through this time. Richard’s was a powerhouse performance.

            • Benny really enjoyed it. He teases about Richard a plenty, but he does think he’s a good actor. ;) And I am thoroughly convinced if those two ever did meet, they would like each other. What’s not to like?? Now, if anyone were to ask me about the rebooted Strike Back, I would snort and say it’s utter crap. LOL
