All aboard the final Smorgasbord for this Sunday

Standard

We went out tonight to a seafood restaurant nearby. Saw a spectacular sunset on our way there, vivid hues of orange, pink and deep blue–a perfect ending for a beautiful October day.

My sisters are out walking  sweet Miss Hannah, my middle sister’s adorable mixed breed dog (she of the silky, fuzzy ears and the big brown doe eyes).

I’ve done my nightly ritual of cleaning face, brushing teeth, slipping into my PJs and getting as comfy as possible. ;) Benny got home safe and sound with all pets doing well, I am happy to report.

I thought I would leave you with one last Sunday Smorgasbord–if you all don’t mind. And somehow, I think you won’t . . .

  1. Thanks! I’m put off writing a test all weekend and I’m now scrambling to do it before bed :( These lovely pix gave me the energy boost I need to get it done. Sounds like you’re having a lovely time. Best to you and yours!

  2. Monday starts very well. I delight to look at those pics. There is a lot of empathy, in every picture I feel the emotion of the scene, the anguish of his characters..I recently saw Sparkhouse, and I loved the sweetness and innocence of his “John”, a young inexperienced in the body of an adult.
The scene of Meg and Guy is very tender and touching, I suffered for him. Mr Thornton leaves me breathless, with his mouth half -open and the melancholy look… Thanks for your pics as vivid. Your description of the sunset is very romantic, you are very inspired

    • I am glad I got your Monday started well, Guilia. I often refer to John S. as Sweetie John, for that is exactly what he is, a dear, sweet man with a heart of gold. :D How can one not love him??

  3. John is my favorite character. I am just a sucker for sweet gentle men. You can have the bad boys all to yourself. I was surprised to learn that this was RA’s first major role. He obviously studied hard in his drama classes because he nailed the character perfectly. Sigh.

Gulf coast sunsets are spectacular. I’m glad you are enjoying your stay at the beach.

    • I know that Thornton is considered his iconic role (although something tells me Thorin will give him a run for his money) but I think John Standring was his true breakthrough role.

He had been toiling away for years before that, a somewhat fallow, frustrating period in t3erms of his career during which he did a lot of DIY work for mates, worked front of house and other jobs to make ends meet after leaving drama school.

Then he went in for the Sparkhouse audition in character–the first time he’d done that–and he won the role. After that, his career seemed to turn around and he was getting regular work in his chosen profession. I see Standring as both a brilliant piece of character acting on his part–I mean, how can one actor pull off Guy AND Sweetie John so believably??–and the kickstart he needed for his career.

I like the way you worked with that ethereal light effect in the picture of Guy and Meg. I felt it was a moment of transcendence for both characters.

John Standring, John Thornton, John Porter — I do love these Johns. I know it’s been said jokingly that if Richard plays one more chaRActer with the name John, he’ll start answering to that name. Yet in Spain, where Juan is the equivalent of John, it’s said that half of the men in Spain are called Juan.
