The Curious Appeal of Tied Up Guy

Standard

Not again! In S3, Guy is tied up not once, but twice. And stuck in a go-go cage.

A gagged Guy endures plenty of pain for "painting his arm like a girl." (This from a man wearing black varnish on his nails.)

I sense Guy is saying here: "Well, Arrow Boy. Now that you've got me, what are you gonna do with me?"

I suspect I have a touch of allergic conjunctivitis in my right eye. It has been bugging me for a couple of days and only getting worse in terms of discharge, itching and redness (which also makes it extremely attractive. Not). Hubby brought home allergy drops and I finally have some relief, hooray!

Something else that brings me relief, of course, no matter what is ailing me, is theRApy. And since it is still Guy Day Friday, I offer these screencaps and make the query: why is a Guy who is bound, gagged and otherwise incapacitated so darned appealing to some of us?

I am not a person into certain kinky behaviors, shall we say.
But the sight of Guy in restraints sends a curious thrill through me.

Is it having the big, bad, dominating henchman at my mercy? Do I want to make him cry “uncle?”

Do you find a Tied Up Guy appealing and why? If not, why not? I would love to hear your thoughts.

About fedoralady

I'm an LA native--Lower Alabama, that is. My husband of more than 30 years and I live here on a portion of my family's former farm with two gorgeous calicos and a handsome GSD mix. My background is art education, and over the years I've been a teacher, department store photographer, sales associate and a journalist. My husband, his business partner and I have Pecan Ridge Productions, a video production company, for which I shoot & edit video and stills and manage marketing. I also still write part-time for the local paper. I love movies, music, art, photography and books, and my tastes in all of them are eclectic.

  1. I think the appeal is related to both his physical stature and the power Guy seems to exude. There is just something about such a large, powerful man-who also has such a hot temper-tied up and at the mercy of others that sends a shiver down my spine. (She says blushing at making such an admission.)

    • I was watching the movie “Night of the Iguana” the other day and there is one scene in which the disgraced, alcoholic minister played by Richard Burton is tied up to keep him from further misbehavior. The minister is talking to Deborah Kerr’s character and says something along the lines of “all women want to have a man tied up at some point in their lives.”

And I immediately thought of Guy (although Porter also had his share of such situations).

That’s the reaction I have as well, Jas. Call me blushing, too.

Seeing Guy–big, strapping, intimidating alpha male Guy–at one’s mercy gives one a sort of forbidden thrill. I remember the look on the face of Izzie’s servant when she discovered Guy tied to the bed at Izzie’s home. You suspected she found the situation quite intriguing and would have liked to explore things further (until Guy went and tied her up instead). 😉

Also, when Robin has Gizzie tied up, I love how Guy still retains that attitude of bravado even if he is scared Robin is going to brand him with the hot iron. You can do what you want to himm, but you can’t keep our handsome henchman down for long.

  2. For me, it’s the same kind of thrill as watching a power plant come online, only more visceral. A raw force of nature bound, harnessed if not tamed, still wild but subject to my will — it’s quite heady, that is, When that force of nature is Guy, so strong and gorgeous and desirable, it’s more and different. My mind goes straight to those naughty places and twitches, relentlessly … However, I also imagine what he’d do when I let him loose.

    • It’s electrifying, there is no doubt about it. Yet another reason why Jonas seemed such a poor choice to play opposite Richard as the hero. The Anti-hero was so much more compelling, interesting, and yes, sexy as hell. And as Richard says, “It is so much fun to play the bad guy.”

I have said before my reaction to S3 Guy in the first ep—boozy, feral,a wild-maned mad man–was visceral. Sure, I wanted to put him into a bathtub–but there were many other things I wanted to do to him and with him. See Guy in bondage makes me feel the same way . . . and yes, reflecting on just what he might wish to do to punish me after the restraints are off is rather fun.

      • Re the casting of Jonas, let’s face it, it’s must have been hard to find somebody who can “balance out” the formidable presence that is Mr. RA. Or was Jonas cast first and the producers didn’t expect him to be eclipsed so thoroughly by Richard? It was probably the latter. Anyway, I don’t think the writers helped poor Jonas’s cause! If they wanted people to like him then why did they have him treat Much so abominably? He humiliated his faithful servant at every turn!
Re bonding and stuff, you are one NAUGHTY girl!!!

        • Yeah, I think they actually cast Jonas first. To be fair, Jonas himself seemed a bit surprised he was chosen for the role. I think they knew they had a good thing when they cast Richard as a potential magnet for the ladies–after all, this is the man who earned his own army after playing Thornton–but didn’t realize just how much of a good thing at first. Once they caught on, we saw Richard’s part get beefed up.
And I absolutely agree about the writers and how they shaded Robin’s character much to the detriment of how we perceived him. Leigh and I have discussed this topic recently with Leigh. Robin was written as such a self-glorifying, smug, arrogant, smarmy git it was very difficult to like him at times. I personally despised his treatment of poor faithful well-meaning Much. And yes, I AM a very naughty girl. But it’s part of my charm.:D

  3. I’ve never been one for bondage or any other kind of kinky behaviour, but for Guy (and Porter) I would make an exception! *grins and blushes too*
As you and Leigh have said, angie, it’s what may happen after the restraints are off. The thrill is in the anticipation… 😉

    • As I have said before, all bets are off when it comes to RA and the things that appeal to me now due to his characters (and his own lovely self). Never cared for tattoos in particular. And then Lucas North walked in that washroom and stripped off his top. Ah. Gnothi Seauton. Never a huge fan of long hair on men. And then came S3 Guy. Boom. I also really miss seeing Richard in all that eye makeup. LOL He just knows how to rock it without ever looking effeminate or just silly. He’s beautimos!

    • I LIKE your quack recommendation! Since I don’t have health insurance right now I have to enjoy more home remedies. And RA is great medicine for so many ailments. My eyes are much better today, BTW. 😀

  4. After watching your choice of screencaps, I almost forgot the question…. Is the tied up Guy appealing? The answer is of course, 1,000 times yes!

Several gentle ladies provided interesting answers already.
I would add, in case Sir G. was bound to a bedpost or a tree, I could have a choice to catch his attention! LOL!

  5. WOW it’s gone really warm in here. Guy tied up oh YES!! I do love Guy but a tied up Guy don’t know why it just does something to me I can’t explain. Thanks Angie really cheered me up snowing really
bad here so any Guy picture is welcome.

    • I am so happy I could provide a winter warmup for you, my dear. 😉 Guy also warms me up very, very well. Sometimes I almost need to turn on the air conditioner on a cold day!!

  6. I love it when he’s tied up…that look of disgust when he’s tied to the tree in S3, the menacing growl like a caged lion when he’s in the go go cage…time for bed now…

    • I also figured when he came to and was tied to the tree, he was thinking, “O bloody heck, not AGAIN!” And I LOVE the gogo cage moment. Caged Heat as I like to call it. I bet Richard came up with the whole growl thing, too. 😉
