When I was a kid, I had a reputation for being “tender-hearted” and “sensitive.” I just knew I felt things deeply, things both happy and sad. When something moved me, tears would often come to my eyes.
I got teased about that. Nobody wants to be called a “crybaby”. So I tried to internalize a lot of my emotions, not always very successfully.
Well, I am a great deal older, with a bit more callous on my skin. But I still find myself moved by certain songs, certain images, certain words. When I saw Paris for the first time, I found tears filling my eyes. And I certainly wasn’t sad.
Mr. Armitage with his amazing talent has the ability to do just that–to make me feel deeply, to stir emotions and move me to tears. And I don’t think that is a bad thing at all.
I ran across this quote by actress/musician Zooey Deschanel and just had to share it with you, along with some photos of other things that I allow myself to truly be affected by.
A person, place or moment of beauty is a joy forever . . .
That baby blue jumper has a v neck and exposes so much of his lovely fair skin – I think I’ve died and gone to heaven!
All the photos are just beautiful. Thank you, Angie.
Yes, that blue v-neck is a great choice. He’s a little too lean in those pictures due to weight loss for Spooks 7, but otherwise they are absolutely scrumptious. My blue heaven . . .
Beautiful quotes. I am so happy that you are tenderhearted. I have always seen it as strength. I love people who feel and make me feel and Zooey Deschanel is right. I suspect RA may be that way too. Let’s hear it for the tenderhearted!!!
I always felt that it was an advantage as a writer because I could better empathize with others. And when you have to interview people and sometimes delve into sensitive issues, if they feel you are understanding and someone they can trust, it makes the process much easier. I think Zooey is adorable (I loved her in 500 Days of Summer) and thought there was much insight and wisdom in what she had to say.
Yes, it has to be an advantage as a writer and as simply as a people-person. Empathy is one of the most important gifts anyone can every share with me. Good for Zooey for being so wise.
Absolutely. In fact, one of the signs of a pyschopathic personality is inability to feel empathy for others or to imagine walking in their shoes. And I do think Richard has that gift which allows him to get inside his characters.
Amen, Angie.
Ditto.
I cry over just about everything! Richard has made me cry over and over. He definately empathizes with others. It part of what makes him sooooo attractive.
He’s tapped into his emotions in order to bring us these characters as full-fledged human beings.
He sure knows how to make us believe in them as much as he does.
Wat a JEWEL of a post! Love the bluebell covered forest floor, just had to copy it. It’s one of my fondest memories from living in the UK
