Another step closer: the Comic-Con hotel is booked!

Standard

So now I have a place to stay while at Comic-Con next month, thanks to your generous donations.

I will be staying at the Best Western Plus Otay Valley Hotel in Chula Vista Wednesday night, July 11 through Monday morning, July 16. It’s not as close to the SDCC as I’d like (roughly 10 miles, closer to Mexico than downtown San Diego).

But the hotel is affordable, liked by the majority of those guests reviewing it, and appears to be clean and comfortable, offering free breakfast and wi-fi, two things I had hoped for.  I will have to take the trolley and/or taxis to the convention center. Let us pray the traffic doesn’t snarl up too badly.  Hey, as asilomar pointed out, The Hobbit panel is Saturday, when we won’t have to worry about rush hour.

I went in to tell Benny I had my room secured for the event (I felt my heart thudding a little harder as I clicked the button to make my reservation).  He gave me one of those perfect deadpan expressions and said, “Oh, by the way, they called and said Richard Armitage will be staying there, too.” A pause. “And he’ll have to share a room.”

To which I replied with a cheeky smile, batting my lashes.”Well, it IS a king-size bed . . .” Hey, he asked for it.

Actually, I think Benny and Richard would get along famously. Both very bright and on the shy side, gentlemanly and polite, yet possessing an irresistible naughty streak.  I have the best taste in men, if I do say so myself.

We took a walk together tonight, accompanied by the two dogs, who took occasional departures to chase squirrels, birds, rabbits, who knows. I am trying to build up my stamina and strength as much as I can. I know it’s going to be a grueling experience–a lot of ground to cover, a lot of standing and sitting. May the adrenaline rush keep me going until I can get back to the Otay Valley Hotel and collapse at night.

Just a few weeks away now . . .

Comic-Con International in San Diego is coming July 12-15!

I’ll be there covering several panels for Comic Book Resources and drinking in all the geekery the event can offer to me. And, of course, I have high hopes of seeing and meeting Mr. Armitage on Saturday during Warner Brother’s panel, in which The Hobbit should play a very important part. Fingers and toes crossed!

Thanks to all who have contributed donations to my Comic-Con Trip Fund. There’s still the plane ticket and transportation to and from the  hotel to the event to fully cover, so know that any contribution you can make helps make a difference.

  1. Oh, Angie…I’m getting so excited you’d think I was going instead of you ( 😉 )…it all feels just sooo personal! and simply wonderful! 🙂

      • That does look like a nice place to stay, too, Angie…they’ll make that lovely big bed for you, won’t they? We can’t have such a little lady trying to stretch and bend to make the bed!

        • They should come in daily and tidy the room while I am at the convention. I’ve gotten used to being spoiled with excellent service on cruises so I might not have quite as good an experience in that way. However, the hotel was given pretty high marks by many guests who wrote reviews for the travel sites.

  2. Oh me too! It certainly is THE next thing to being there ourselves!! To think that one of “OUR little community” is going to be there! You are our ambassador!! 😀

  3. I’m thrilled for you, Angie. Lovely Benny, pulling your leg and all. Not many men would joke about you sharing a room with Richard, nor do it so lovingly. Lucky you, lucky Benny. I am glad you had a good and properly escorted walk. I’ve got fingers crossed hoping you get good rest tonight.

    • I think it speaks well of him that he is comfortable joking like that about such subjects. And it is done in a very cheeky but sweet way. Benny knows he’s my number one. 😉 So, yes, a nice walk, not too hot, the sweetness of blooming shrubs to drink in and NOT a single rattler in sight!

  4. I’ve heard about your trip,Angie.:) Congratulations!
I bet that Benny is very pleased when he sees Angie’s happy face.;)
    He is truly wonderful.!

  5. Benny is a treasure. If you were married to John Thornton he would be scowling right now. It is too bad that Benny cannot go with you. He would be such a great help to you.

Well, now you have your flight booked and your hotel. Not to mentioned your own code as a journalist for Comic-Con. You are all set. Now all you have to do is pack. 🙂

  6. When I wake up in the morning I am supposed to be spending the time before getting ready for work meditating for myself and our planet. Instead all I have been doing lately is spending the time on this blog talking about Richard. I am trying to get back to my routine but Richard Armitage keeps pulling me onto Angie’s blog instead.

      • Totally agree, Judit 🙂 It’s the bestest medicine for “disappearing” one’s grumpiness, that’s for sure!

    • That’s why I’m late for work every day, Xenia! Ever since Miss Angie started this addictive blog, I have to check it out before work. Luckily, I’m off for two weeks before Summer School! Today, I’m going to be late for a day out with some friends. Thank goodness they won’t give me dirty looks like the Principal!!

      • It’s also Angie’s fault that I forgot to take my thyroid tablets for months on end! 😉 Instead of going straight to the fridge to get the tabs each day, I go straight to this bloody computer to read her posts!!

        • and I sooo love them! and all the great comments! I’m totally addicted to Richard, of course, but now I’m also addicted to these posts 🙂

            • Now, you’re talking…….on my beloved computer……that thing I really can’t do without. You know, it’s like cutting my arms and legs off to be without it 🙂

OK, Leigh…will it beep at me? that’s what I would need…a beep and a verbal reminder! 😉

Just kidding. I have managed to take the tablets every day for the past 6 weeks – whooopee – bring out the champagne!

Now, I just need to remember to go for that follow-up blood test and the subsequent doctor’s appointment. 🙂

              • If you set it as a recurring meeting in Outlook it will beep or chime at you (depending on the version, and a little box pops up in front of whatever you’re doing.

          • Phone? Oh, my mobile. No, it never occurred to me. I’m not a great lover of mobiles….I have mine with me merely for emergencies – I have the cheapest prepaid you can get and buy a $30 voucher. That can last me months and months! 😉

  7. This hotel looks very nice, Angie! And you’ll have a king sized bed – lovely! YAY for the complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi! Yes it would be great if Benny could go with you… Maybe next year, who knows? 🙂

    • And then maybe you could cross the border and spend a few days in Mexico, just enough to enjoy some white sand + blue water. But then there’s pet sitting to arrange.

  8. I’m so happy for you, Angie! I’m also enjoying living vicariously through you! I can’t wait for your updates. I glad Benny and your dogs are taking good care of you on your walks. We can’t let you be surprised by those nasty snakes!

    • We’ve got my cousin bringing up our last surviving aunt and uncle on daddy’s side either tomorrow or Thursday, and I have to warn Danny to watch out for snakes when they walk around the old farmhouse. At least the grass was cut and we haven’t had any rain to make it sprout right up again.
