Me, My Thoughts, and Richard Armitage

I’m saddened and shocked at the news I woke up too. I’m sure some story will come out about how the shooter had a mental illness or some other rationalization  for his behavior. Isn’t that always the case? But it won’t be much comfort to the family and friends of those who lost their lives, simply because they went to see Batman.

I’ve always tried to see the good in people, but the more I see of the world, the less I believe that there is good in everyone. Some people seem to be predisposed to evil. What a sad world we live in.

May those who lost their lives rest in peace. May their families find some comfort. Many thoughts and prayers for the injured, may you live long, healthy and happy lives.

About fedoralady

I'm an LA native--Lower Alabama, that is. My husband of more than 30 years and I live here on a portion of my family's former farm with two gorgeous calicos and a handsome GSD mix. My background is art education, and over the years I've been a teacher, department store photographer, sales associate and a journalist. My husband, his business partner and I have Pecan Ridge Productions, a video production company, for which I shoot & edit video and stills and manage marketing. I also still write part-time for the local paper. I love movies, music, art, photography and books, and my tastes in all of them are eclectic.

  1. One of the things I’m really struggling to understand is how can any one person buy piles and piles of ammunition over the internet in the course of 60 short days without getting ANY attention from the authorities??? Can’t the FBI (or whoever) control these gun-and ammo selling websites in some way or other? The company I work for is owned by an American corporation and we have to report every last paper clip we buy to them! Why aren’t these online ammo sites forced to report any bulk-buying from a civilian to the authorities? OK, I understand people have the right to defend themselves but surely THIS much ammunition can’t be bought for self-defence? I think this issue will have to be addressed.

  2. This is just my opinion but I really do think the USA need stricter gun control legislation…How many shootings like this one will have to take place before they take some steps to prevent clinically insane people from buying firearms like candy?

  3. Stricter gun control legistlation would of course be of some help, but IMO it wouldn’t solve the problem. Those insane people will always find their way of getting what they need for their insane acts. What I find quite alarming is the way the media deal with these cases. These lunatics get quite a lot of medea coverage and they almost become heroes of some kind. Does this “heroism” encourage other unbalanced people to imitate their “heroes”? Are these people so desparate to get famous, even if it’s after they have died (in many cases they kill themselves)?

We’ve had an increasing numbeer of mass murder shootings at schools – or other resembling incidents – in recent years and also family tragedies where the head of the family has killed the whole family and then himself. The gun contol legistlation has been made stricker in Finland but it hasn’t been of much help so far. These tragedies are still alarmingly frequent.

    • Sadly, these kinds of incidences are increasingly common around the world, it seems. I do think it can detrimental to give someone who commits such a crime lots of attention as that is the reason some do it. And yes, even with gun control regulations in place–and I certainly there should be stringent guidelines for purchase of guns and ammunition–a person who is determined to carry out such a crime will find the way.

      • I know more stringent regulations wouldn’t solve the problem but surely they would make committing such crimes more difficult and less frequent…Surely the authorities should try and make it harder for these lunatics! At the very least, carry out some sort of investigation if someone is buying ammunition in bulk, for Heaven’s sake! I agree about the media coverage, that it gives these lunatics exactly what they crave (“fame”), but I wonder if it’s at all possible to keep such a horrific event “under wraps” in the era of mobile phones&cameras? 😦
