The new movie tie-in book, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Annual 2013, is now out. And you are going to want a copy!
If you order from Amazon using the link buttons on the home page at www.richardarmitagenet.com our dear friend Ali will make sure a portion of the sale goes to charity. Amazon.com only has the books available through their marketplace, but I ordered mine today. After all, my birthday is only a few weeks away, right? Dearly hoping it arrives well before the middle of October!
The One Ring Net also has an article and artwork from the book, including an amazing portrait of actor Lee Pace as Elven King Thranduil that you can enlarge to see all the intricate details of his costume. http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2012/08/30/61298-thranduil-saruman-the-white-revealed-in-hobbit-film-tie-in-book/
Here’s a taste of the beautiful artwork to be found within the new book:
So, is it December yet??
Have Orcrist, will battle. I’d follow this dude anywhere.

A pic of Thorin / Armitage with his nephews. I know this is really supposed to be an Aidan Turner pic but I find this really moving. To write about later.
No, not December yet, but the book looks splendid.
From what I have seen of the art, it is quite impressive. Can’t wait to have it in my hands.
I think we’re going to hear those four words quite a bit over the next 3+ months — “They’re really hot dwarfs!” 😉 Oh, and “Is it December yet?”
I think you are right, Zan. 😉

Hot dwarfs, big swords and a really cool movie tie-in book!
The pics are really amazing! Just ordered my book from Amazon UK, for only £6! I’m so thrilled.
I agree, I can’t wait to see them in the actual book. 😀
I’ve just ordered a copy from Amazon UK, at a cost of AU$23-24, including postage, which I thought was pretty good. I’m assuming it’s hardback, the artwork looks fabulous, and it does have to travel a long way down under! 😀
BTW I’m no fan of weaponry, of any kind, but looking at the pic above, I have to confess, Orcrist is a magnificent sword…just like it’s bearer! 😉
Mine cost just under $20 USD including shipping, and it’s coming from England, so I figured that wasn’t too bad. And yes, it is a hardcover. I wonder just how much Orcrist weighs? it looks like a substantial piece of weaponry, I must say. Oh, and as you will see in a later post, there is definitely some weapon envy going on with Guy re Thorin . . . 😉
I have also ordered mine on Amazon UK, because it was only £ 6.– and the shipping cost was not expensive. At Amazon USA, the shipping price was higher than the book’s price !
I just ordered mine a few minutes ago but it is not coming from England. It is coming from a bookseller right here in New York so I will have next week.
I went with the Book Depository because I’ve used them before and had really good luck. I got confirmation it shipped today, so hopefully it won’t be too terribly long before it arrives. My birthday is the 25th so it would be nice to have it before then. 😀
Do you really have to ask if I’ve ordered it Angie. Silly question lol
I am actually surprised that I ordered it. I didn’t order it yesterday because I had to think about it. Only Richard Armitage can make me do things I would not ordinarily do.
Yeah, he has that effect on a lot of us. 😉 That which I would not do if it weren’t for Richard Armitage . . . 😉
He certainly can make us do LOTS of things we wouldn’t ordinarily do! 😉 Getting hold of a copy of this is a must!!! 😀
Thanks for the tip! I’ll order it this weekend! Looks fabulous!
I ordered it last night! I can’t wait to see those beautiful pictures!
Oh, me, too. Want to hold it in my hot little hands and ogle Uncle Thorin. 😉 And enjoy the rest of the pics, too, of course.
BTW – what did you think of the new pics of Thranduil at theonering? I think Lee looks fantastic and perfect as the “father” of Legolas! I wonder if they will ever market copies of the rings he is wearing? I think they’re beautiful and I’d certainly buy one if I got the chance! 🙂 Well maybe not that huge one. 😀
Lee is pretty darned gorgeous!
He really is. And he has a nice voice, too, don’t you think? I bet he’ll be a bewitching Thranduil.
A nice, deep voice, indeed. With all due respect to Orlando Bloom, I think “father” exceeds “son” in the beauty stakes in this case.. 🙂
Oh, yes. Sort of like Uncle Thorin and the boys. Aidan and Dean are cuties, but for me, the more mature Oakenshield is the top hottie. 😉 Lee’s height and gracefulness of movement and his lovely voice in addition to his good looks (and acting talent) will come together to create quite the hottie elf.
Lee looks stunning. I really love his costume. And think he’s going to be great in the role. And who knows? They might very well make and sell replicas of some of the jewelry.
Arrgh my Annual has arrived. Doing some serious drooling at the moment.
That sounds wonderful! Something to really look forward to! 😀
Lucky you!! Now I can hardly wait for mine to arrive. 🙂
