It’s the cat’s pajamas, too.

Thumper seems to really like my new pajamas, too. She climbed up on my outstretched legs and made herself at home whilst I tapped away on the computer. I happened to have the camera within reach.  Eventually I had to move–my leg was asleep, even if the rest of me wasn’t–but she had a good long nap in a bed of roses, one might say.

My bedjacket arrived today! It’s lovely, a true “classic red” (the color listed online) in person  rather than the raspberryish tone it had in the photo, and it harmonizes beautifully with the pajamas. The velour gives it a rich look and it’s not heavy or bulky–just right for keeping away a chill.  I am going to see a stage production  of A Christmas Carol at Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery Saturday (this will be the fourth or fifth time, I think) and was just saying to Benny I have to figure out what I am going to wear. He smiled and gave a nod towards my bedjacket and waggled his brows.

I chuckled. “Well, with a pair of black dress pants and some jewelry, yeah, it could work.”

“Hmmmmm. I’m thinking now that I should get a smoking jacket,” he said with a definite twinkle in his blue eyes.

I laughed. “Oh, yes. And a pipe. You wouldn’t have to actually smoke it. Oh, and a snifter of brandy . . .”

Wouldn’t he be handsome? 😉

I'm an LA native--Lower Alabama, that is. My husband of more than 30 years and I live here on a portion of my family's former farm with two gorgeous calicos and a handsome GSD mix. My background is art education, and over the years I've been a teacher, department store photographer, sales associate and a journalist. My husband, his business partner and I have Pecan Ridge Productions, a video production company, for which I shoot & edit video and stills and manage marketing. I also still write part-time for the local paper. I love movies, music, art, photography and books, and my tastes in all of them are eclectic.

  1. Thumper has good taste just like her Mama Cat. Lovely snap of kitty bliss. Yes, a smoking jacket would suit Benny very well, something in a good silk foulard; of course, no tobacco required, but that snifter of cognac could be a nice addition. (Something else to put in a snifter is half Grand Marnier and half Meyers rum, swirl and warm, or amaretto and creme de cacao, sweet and naughty.)

I have actually worn dressy jammies out; I figure if Marilyn Monroe could wear a nightgown as an evening dress, why not? The slinky satin charmeuse was perfectly acceptable, good for dancing.

    • Eons ago I wore evening pajamas to a sorority-related function. I think Benny still has the wallet photo of the two of us together on the stairs somewhere. I have to say they were incredibly comfortable. I also wore a black lace bustier beneath a bolero jacket on our first cruise for a semi-formal evening. Years (and many pounds) ago . . . I think Benny would like either of those two drinks you mentioned ever so much better than crème de menthe margaritas LOL I got some other cute shots of Thumper I’ve been working on in photo editing. She was most comfy. She is curled up on the other side of the bed now, resting comfortably. 😉

      • Creme de mehthe margarita — may I say, “Eww, gross!”? One drink that you make like a margarita is a “Southern Rita”, where you replace the tequila with Southern Comfort and the Gran Gala with peach schnapps, use some fresh (or frozen) peach puree in place of the lime juice, shake with crushed ice and serve in a glass rimmed with sugar instead of salt.

Lucky is now sleeping on the fresh bedding I was going to use to make the bed. Don’t have the heart to wake him.

      • Hmm. No need to change, just go straight upstairs? The wedding dresses here this season look like someone butchered an old lace tablecloth, or like they had a ton of fabric they needed to use up in lots of deep pleats and tucks, or mountains of fabric roses. Not my taste at all…

  2. Gorgeous picture of Thumper, Angie. The colors are perfect! It reminds me of our first cat Buttons, also black and white, and rescued by my daughter from the proverbial tree. She brought much love into our lives and taught me a great deal about animals. I went on to watch, then devour in book form, “All Things Great and Small” etc. The Brits do come up with some wonderful, quality stuff. I would love to see Yorkshire, of the Creatures fame, and not far away, Leichestershire. Maybe make a pilgrimage like John Thornton’s.

    • My pajamas definitely complement her coloring. 😉 Thumper has become so loving and sociable in recent months, which just delights me. After losing our Lucky and Puddie so close together, it’s been a blessing to have both Thumper and Callie cuddling with us.

I would love to go back to England and see more of the countryside We mainly spent time in London with a trip to Canterbury.
