Thankful for Richard. Thankful for all of you.

Writing in itself is a rather solitary endeavor. When I was writing for the newspaper, there were times when I simply had to take my laptop and notes and retreat to one of the conference rooms in order to block out some of the madness that could be a newspaper office (yes, even in a small town) and get the story “turned around” as rapidly as possible–written and uploaded to the website.

I work on the components of my blog entries by myself, more or less: making the fanart, creating the videos, writing the essays and so on (although, of course, I benefit from your suggestions and the upcoming rearview vid will have lots of fan input, you cheeky wenches).  Still, it’s mostly just me, my laptop and my imagination.

But if I put my time, creativity and energies into doing all of this and no one comes to the party–well, it would be rather lonely, as much pleasure as Mr. Armitage brings into my life.

And so I am thankful for all of you who stop in, whether it’s on a daily basis or just every so often. I truly appreciate it when you leave a comment. It’s encouraging. It lets me know you are reading/perusing and taking an interest in it. Sometimes you tell me that I have helped make your day. Truthfully, that goes both ways. You also help make mine.

Today is Thanksgiving Day here in the US, a holiday that marks our remembrance of the first feast held by the Pilgrims who arrived at Plymouth Rock shared with the native Americans who had helped them.

Pilgrim Snoopy and Indian Woodstock extend Thanksgiving greetings to each other in “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.”

Celebrated on the fourth Thursday of each November, it means family time, feasting on holiday favorites, watching the famed Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (the same one celebrated in the movie classic Miracle on 34th Street) and football games. For some, it will actually be the kickoff to holiday shopping, as some of our “big box” retailers like K-Mart and Wal-Mart are opening at 8 p.m. offering Black Friday deals early.

But for me, it is important to also  remember to actually give thanks on Thanksgiving Day. It doesn’t matter what your religious beliefs are or whether or not you even have any; an attitude of gratitude is something that we all can practice, surely.

I am thankful for many things. There’s the everyday blessings we tend to take for granted here; a roof over my head with electricity and running water, a comfortable bed, plenty of food, technology that gives me a window on the world out here in the middle of nowhere.

Thankful for the parents who gave me a sold value system, who encouraged me to develop my brain and my talents and not just focus on being a pretty face a la those Toddlers and Tiaras parents.

For loving sisters and yes, for my own wonderful, darling, kind, sweet, funny, sexy hubby, Benny. For pets who think I’m the greatest and give me so much love and companionship and laughter.  For the blessings of a caring RL community and friendships old and new.

And for Richard Armitage, the perfect muse, the incomparable crush, the warm, witty, talented, beautiful, delightful human being. Without him, this blog wouldn’t exist. And again, I am thankful for you all and the kindness, thoughtfulness, fun and friendship you bring into my life each day

Harry Kennedy, the character Richard says is most like the “real” RA. Surely a fellow with a grateful heart.

I made this video last year to celebrate the occasion:

To my fellow American, a Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. And to everyone else, a happy, healthy, blessed Thursday.

  1. Although we had our Thanksgiving last month here in Canada I want to wish all my dear American friends a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow – or today as it already is in some places. When we see sad things happening around the world let us all be thankful for the many blessings we enjoy. It goes without saying that I am truly thankful for all of you and for Richard Armitage who brought us together. I would not be the person I am without either him or you! God bless you all.

    • I truly believe there is always something for which to be thankful, although it may be harder for us to see that in the darkest times.

You know, of course, I count you as one of my blessings, dear Teuchter. Our RA friendships are just as special and solid, I believe, as the face-to-face friendships we have. RA can take great pride in “our little community.” 😀

  2. What a beautiful post Angie! I feel very honoured the way you thank us with your wards. It’s an absolute pleasure to read your blog and chat with you and other fellow RA admirers. Just wanted to tell you that you do a great job here, I absolutely love your blog. Is Harry Kennedy the closest chaRActer to Richard? OMG! *swoon*, Harry is the kind of man I’ve always loved, no wonder Richard has got me so utterly besotted… *sigh* ❤

    • Hi Noemi! I always loved the fact that it was Richard himself who said that Harry Kennedy’s chaRActer was the most like him! Makes me swoon too at the very thought! 😉

    • Thank you, Noemi. You are a sweetheart. Yes, indeed, Richard, when asked which character he felt was most like him in RL, said it was Harry. I remember reading that the first time and letting out this huge, blissful sort of sigh. Made me love him even more. 😀

      • And you can tell it’s true, he’s a lot like Harry, but maybe cheekier? I see a hint of naughtiness in Richard that I don’t see in Harry… What do you think? 😀

        • Oh, I think the naughtiness is there in Harry, too. When he talks about how he finds clerical collars sexy, for example. And the whole indebtedness thing. “One kiss–with tongues.” And that waggle of his brows as he says it. He’s a bit shy on the surface but there’s cheekiness there, too, IMHO. 😉

          • Actually you’re right, I didn’t think of those moments 😀 But I don’t know, maybe it’s me, but I see something else in Richard that I don’t see in Harry, I just don’t know what it is! lol! (see comments about insanity on previous post…). Harry is so lovely, but I still prefer his creator 😀

  3. Dear fedoralady, not a day goes by without me visiting your blog at least once – it has become something of a way of life (and a distraction!) and without it my existence would be that bit poorer. It is not only that someone with your gifts and imagination gives me an avenue to enjoy this rare, beautiful and talented creature that is RA but through you I have “met” people who I believe have become genuine friends. Bless you for what you do and keep it up!.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving – you and all the others in the US that form part of our truly delightful little community.

  4. Happy Thanksgiving, Angie. Best wishes to you, Benny, and the pets — I am thankful for all of you, for the lovely people I have met through your kind offices, for this blog which makes my day better every day, and for Richard, all that he is and all that he’s done, lighting up our lives the way he does (and for making me believe that men like Harry actually exist).

    • You know I wish the same for you, my friend. And I can assure you men like Harry do exist. I am married to one, after all. 😀 And hooray for the lovely human being named Richard who inspires, enchants and invigorates us all.

  5. Thank you for doing what you do Angie! Thank the whole little community and lastly thank Richard Armitage for doing what he does the way he does it. I was stumbling around lost six months ago when I came across N&S which led me to more of his work and to blogs. I can’t explain it, but I found a shelter in the RA community before I left even one comment. Now a day doesn’t go by that I don’t drop in here or there to chat or not. I’m so thankful for whatever that special something is that draws us to him. Whatever it is, it reopened my eyes to a whole lot that I had ‘forgotten.’ *sniffle* 🙂 Happy Day!

  6. Wonderful, moving post! I try to remind myself every day how lucky I am to have a job, a roof over my head, clean water,food.. And I can’t really express how thankful I am to have found Richard &through him, this lovely bunch of people. Hugs to all!
