And no one can sport an attitude–or has more reason for one–than our dearest dark knight.  Take it away, Sir Guy!!

“And how do you feel about Ben Affleck winning the Batman role, Sir Guy?”

*smirks, sniffs, and folds his arms*

“The–actor from ‘Gigli‘ and ‘Jersey Girl‘ . . . ” *sniffs again, with distinct disdain* “I suppose he does quite a creditable job with his pen and behind the camera, but I am not impressed with him as a darkly heroic figure.” *a broad smirk* “Frankly, I think the CReAtor–in your modern parlance–could kick his ass from here ’til next Friday.”

I agree with Guy. And some people were complaining that Richard was too “soft” for the role  . . .

  1. Happy Guy Day!

Mixed feelings about Batman. On the one hand, it isn’t the sort of franchise that floats my boat, on the other hand I hope it wasn’t something RA wanted to do. I can imagine he might- in order to really break into Hollywood- and I have no doubt he would have brought something special to the role. Anyway, it is not to be and I really really hope that is okay for Armitage.

What we need is an announcement about his next role so we know he’s been negotiating on something else all the time and never had any interest in play a bat…

    • I was never on the Batman bandwagon, it was more, of “yeah, he’d be great, IF it’s something he actually wants to do.” But now I am kind of pissed because Ben just doesn’t strike me as an inspired choice of casting. I don’t dislike him; he’s just never, ever wowed me as an actor. He doesn’t have the intensity, the dark edge I think is needed for that role. Just my opinion. I don’t feel well physically right now and it’s not taking much to irritate me, it seems. LOL It WOULD cheer me up to hear he is firmly attached to some project he really does want. Heck, if they just announced a release date on “Black Sky” or whatever the heck it’s being called this week, I’d feel better! 😉

      • Yes… well… i try not to be negative about people so all i will say is that i think Ben Affleck is a very good director and producer.

  2. Happy Guyday, Friday! I’m with our dark knight on this one. Again, I’d be thrilled to hear that Richard has a firm commitment for a project he really wants. And lest we forget, he’s got all the promo stuff to do for the Desolation of Smaug coming up, plus for the third film, along with whatever he needs to do for “Into the Storm”. That’s got to cut into his availability for a major project for now.

    • Yes, in a way the Hobbit still owns him through early 2015–thinking of promoting the DVD release. I hope he’s got something else set up for 2014, though–well, I can’t imagine him “resting” for long unless he’s forced to and/or there are no decent offers in which he is interested. 😦

  3. Well., as they say, that’s showbiz. I hope he didn’t want to be Batman and he is not bummed. I am, however, underwhelmed about Ben being Batman. I just want to see Richard in something where he survives into the credit roll.

    • Yeah, there were so many names they started flinging around, it was anybody’s guess. However, Affleck never entered my mind. I agree-underwhelmed by choice. And yes, as good as RA is at playing baddies and as beautifully as he “dies” onscreen—I really DO want him to survive those final credits. 😉

  4. Pic 1: *thud*
And on the Batman news – gosh, I am so relieved. Really, a tired old franchise was the last thing I wanted to see him in, hiding his beautifully expressive face under a mask for half the film. An Armitage doesn’t have to hide his face! Good luck to Affleck, though. (Apologies to all Batman fans – not personal!)

  5. Batman–Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn. They have become way too dark, for my taste. I loved the Michael, Val, and George ones. I’m just happy we still have 2 more movies of RA in the Hobbit. If someone wants to take all his interviews and glue them together and throw a soundtrack with it, call it “Richard, The Man, The Myth, the Voice”, I’ll watch it and buy the Blu-Ray.”

  6. I also am relieved that RA won’t be doing Batman. I’ve never felt inclined to see any of those, but with Richard in the lead, I’d have to. Now, the remake of Poldark, that’s another matter.

Sorry you’ve been feeling poorly, Angie. Take a look at this website: onethinginafrenchday. It’s short and interesting, and now she’s charging for the text and a newsletter–all on line. Could you do something comparable with your corner of the world? There is more of a market for English than French. You have writing and computer skills, creativity, photography, sense of humor, teaching experience. It would accommodate to your physical challenges. Just an idea.

  7. Okay, I’m hoping he didn’t really want Batman because it just didn’t strike me as his sort of role–but Ben Affleck? Where did that come from? Please don’t misunderstand me, I saw “Argo” and have great respect for him as a director–but as Sir Guy pointed out, The guy who helped sink “Gigli”, possibly one of the all time worst movies ever made? Puh-leeze! Oh, well, don’t know why I’m carping since I won’t be seeing it anyway without Richard. I just hope he has something really wonderful on the line, something he really WANTS.

  8. Thanks for all these great pictures Angie! I *really* needed Guy today! It has felt so anticlimactic after such a wonderful day of celebrating Armitage Day.

I’m quite relieved he is not to be the next Batman and I bet he knew he wasn’t going to be chosen when he said he’d love to play that part! Such a tease. 🙂 Still, if he *had* been chosen I would naturally have gone to see it even though it is not a genre I’m normally interested in. I can think of a number of roles he’d be perfect for although I admit I’m not one of those who want to see him as Matthew Clairmont. *ducks as objects are thrown at me* Sorry, but vampires and witches are not my thing. I’m just dying to see him as a normal human being with (hopefully) a love interest and a role where he is still alive, well and has the girl when the credits roll. Is this always to be just wishful thinking? I sure hope not!

    • I have to say, I’m with you (although I am of the camp who would love to see him as Matthew Clairmont). But it would be nice to see him as a regular guy, too, who’s still upright and walking at the end of the film. Can’t say I’m sorry about the Batman thing–who needs all that masculine beauty and perfection hidden under a batsuit for half the film? Plus, I’d rather see him in a franchise that he can put his own particular stamp on, if he’s going to do a franchise film. Don’t know what that would be, but I’m just as happy he won’t be trying to breathe life into something as old and tired as Batman is at this point. Although if anyone could–

      • Oh I think there is no doubt he would have done the part justice if he’d been chosen. You just have to look at Angie’s background here to see that. But you’re right; we don’t want his face (or his *cough* glorious body) hidden under a batsuit! They’ve been hidden for long enough IMHO!

Poldark is another matter completely. At the very least a mini-series with him in the role of Ross would be wonderful. Can you imagine? More cravats, tight riding breeches – something like these

        http://www.smartpakequine.com/mens-custom-design-breeches-8989p.aspx

and possibly those pirate-like shirts – only they’d likely be white this time around. 😉

        Sorry! Got carried away somewhat!!

  9. Angie, Just hope you feel better soon, sleep tonight, and the curs-ed fms will just abate. It is amazing that you do all you do, in the onslaught of physical, climate, pet needs! And just Keep Keeping ON.

Sigh of relief that Mr. Thornton will not have bat’s ears pinned on. (purely personal preferences in roles for talented actors – he would have found a way to “humanise” a 1-D comic character, but…) Can’t quite warm up to vampires, either. Done, overdone. Hasn’t appeared to have furthered the career of Lucy Griffiths. To my chagrin. Hoped for better for her, in the N.A. market.

    Take care, ma chere,
