RA gets thumbs up in Flickfilosopher’s 2014 Film Preview!

(Thanks to Berta Martinez for posting link to the blog on FB)

I don’t know about you, but I do get tired of the seemingly endless output of Hollywood films which are reboots, sequels, cartoon (and not even good cartoons. Come on . . . the Smurfs??) or comic book-related . . . so something a little more original is a welcome thing.

Apparently the folks at Flickfilosopher agree, providing us in the above link with a list of films slated to debut in 2014 that are a bit more original. And guess what is one of their most anticipated? I will give you a hint.

Yup. “Into the Storm,” formerly known as “Black Sky” aka the lo-o-o-ng-awaited “Tornado Movie” which was greatly delayed when their FX company went belly up and a scramble took place to get the SFX completed.

Here’s what Flicklosopher had to say:

Into the Storm (August 8): Early buzz on this one pegs it as a found-footage(?) Twister writ large, with remarkably realistic FX, or so some early audiences have revealed. Plus, it stars Hobbit It Dwarf Richard Armitage, already well-drooled-over by lovers of Brit TV. He deserves to be a huge Hollywood star, and maybe this will be the flick that does it for him. [IMDb]

I remember reading some of the preview audience members’ reactions, and they did seem pretty positive. And the thought of not having to wait until December to see RA on the big screen again–not the mention the possibility our hero actually survives this one *sniff*–makes me eager to go, well, “into the storm.”

I do love that unaffected Armitage, don’t you?

In the wonderful interview linked above, Fly High blogger Maria Garza asks celebrity photographer Sarah Dunn to describe several of her famous clients in one word. Dunn’s word for Richard Armitage?

Here’s how Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word~

Unaffected: (adjective) 1. Not influenced or changed mentally, physically or chemically. 2. Free from affectation; genuine.  Synonyms include: real, simple, unpretentious, sincere, natural, unassuming, unspoilt. First known use: 1586.

I was very pleased to see Ms. Dunn chose this word to describe RA–pleased, but not one bit surprised.  After  more than six years of seeing/reading his interviews and watching him in behind-the-scenes footage, it’s how I have imagined him to be in real life.

A few fans have expressed fears that making big blockbuster films and getting the additional media attention that comes with that might cause Richard to “go Hollywood.”

Personally, I didn’t and don’t foresee that happening. Unlike, say, Justin Beiber, he’s not a 19-year-old kid who spits on the heads of his fans from a balcony and eggs his neighbor’s house (thank goodness!). Richard is a mature, seasoned man who’s worked hard for decades in a profession that is undeniably tough–few people actually make a living at it–striving to always improve himself, going from strength to strength.

I don’t think he’s the kind of person who would ever forget the so-called “little people,” because frankly, I don’t think he sees them as little people.

He’s mentioned the Golden Rule before, and he seems to practice what he preaches–he treats others the way he himself would like to be treated.  We see that, time and time again, in how friendly, approachable and courteous he is with his fans  Even when he’s got to be tired of smiling and signing and posing.

Is he more media savvy, more polished these days? Sure. But I don’t think the fundamental core that *is* Richard Armitage has changed.

Many “reality stars” who became famous for–well, for what, I am not exactly certain–come to have an inflated view of their own importance. Some actors begin to believe their own press. It goes to their heads.

I don’t believe our unassuming, unpretentious, unaffected Armitage is in danger of that.

Poll #3: Which type of project would want to see RA do next?

Alrighty, we’ve asked which male and female co-stars you’d like to see RA act with on stage or screen (big or small) . . . now let’s think about what sort of production you’d most like to see him in next (talking about new projects, not “Into the Storm” . . .)

This time you get TWO choices, and feel free to elaborate in the comment section.  Remember, this all just for fun and to share our dreams and wishes for our fella.  I know we all want first and foremost for HIM to be happy and fulfilled in his career. 😀

Poll #2: Which Female Co-Star (s) Would You Like to See RA Play Opposite?

OK, in our last post we asked you to choose from a list of potential male co-stars for RA. Now let’s give the ladies their moment to shine. Again, these are not in any certain order and are not necessarily my own personal choices.  Tried for a mixture of ages and “types.”

These are NOT necessarily “romantic pairings”–actress could play his mom, boss, sibling, work partner, etc., someone with whom he could share some great acting moments. And please feel free to add your own choice (s) and to comment. CHOOSE UP TO THREE! Thanks.

Poll: Which (male) co-stars would you most like to see RA perform opposite?

Haven’t done a poll in a while, and I’ve noticed a bit of buzz on FB discussing various actors fans would like to see teamed (and re-teamed in some cases) with Richard in future film/television/stage projects.

These are in no particular order and do not necessarily reflect my own choices, either. Also felt I had to cut it off at a certain number to keep it manageable. Just a mix of UK/American/Aussie actors of varying ages and types. Please feel free to add your own choices not found here and to comment.

If there’s anyone you’d absolutely NOT want to see him act with, please share. Don’t worry, we will get to female co-stars in another post. 😀

So, do you want to SpReAd some Love in 2014?

I am horribly behind in just about every aspect of my life right now, including keeping up with things in the RA World. Just want to remind everyone that once again an initiative has been launched to encourage us to spread some kindness and make our own little corners of the world a better place to live–just as Mr. Armitage would wish us to do. To learn more, click on the link below–and spReAd the love, y’all!

I *always* base my Richard Armitage research on facts found on A03

It’s sad when so-called journalists can’t distinguish between fact and fiction and report it as “fact” . . . Jazzbaby calls them on it. Follow Serv’s link.

Me + Richard Armitage

Check it out. Though I love slash RPF fanfic as much or more as anyone else, we all believe it’s not real. Or do we? Well, many of us do. Comments there, please.

Portah rocks a shemagh; or how the keffiyeh does he look so good?

Porter was a character who accessorized well. The shades, the bracelets, the vests . . . and those scarves, also known as shemaghs or keffiyehs. And boy, are those pieces of cloth really versatile! Just take a look!

(Not too sure you’d want to re-use that rockin’ scarf after making it your toilet paper or feminine hygiene product, however . . . )

“Portah’s so sexy . . . rockin’ the shemagh, rock the shemagh!” (with apologies to The Clash)

Hotter–and better accessorized, too.

What’s your favorite Portah accessory?

An incomplete bit of context about this production off the top of my head, since I’ve been asked a few times now

More info about the context of the reading RA will be participating in in NYC later this month . . . pretty heady stuff. Thanks, Serv!

Me + Richard Armitage

The 92nd St Y is a venerable institution of New York high culture, originally linked to the cultural tastes of the Manhattan Jewish elite, to which it still has connections. But in the more than century since its founding it’s become a major sponsor of and venue for New York City high culture. It’s a place where you can go to hear talks and readings and performances by the most important figures of high culture, especially authors, poets, actors, artists, musicians, ensembles and so on. Their poetry series is considered particularly important (that’s my main interest in / interface with them). So, no, it’s not Broadway. It’s a one-time reading of a piece that’s considered primarily of canonical importance. At the same time, it’s clearly a high culture credential. This will be the most high culture piece of work anyone will have seen Richard Armitage perform since well before North…

Guyday Friday: The Dark Knight Plunders, LW Wonders

“Sooooo–what is on that fertile mind of yours, dearest Ladywriter?”

The familiar dark chocolate rumble sounded in her ears and LW smiled. She was awake, but eyes closed. LW was daydreaming a bit, still gratefully tucked beneath the covers late on a damp, bone-chilling winter’s morning. It had been a long, restless, painful night.

“Hullo, Sir Guy, my dearest dark knight. Another Friday has arrived . . . ” She gave a small sigh. “My mind doesn’t feel terribly fertile of late, although I DID get a little writing done while the internet was down all day yesterday. And some reading . . .”

LW opened her eyes and laughed softly. “YOU have been–plundering my thoughts again, Sir Guy.”

He doffed the tricorn atop his handsome head and swept her an elegant bow, the silver buttons shining on his royal blue velvet frock coat, the fabric shot through with pale blue and silver embroidery . . .

“So what shall it be, my lady, am I the rakish highwayman who retains a noble spirit, or that irresistible vampire pirate captain sailing upon the Charteuse Bastard or–”

He raised those dark brows and waggled them roguishly in her direction, giving her a smug and devilish smile.

“Or what about that re-teaming of the Wonder Twins you promised our darling Guylty??”

“Sir Guy–I truly do not know what is next . . . only that I must write–something.” She blinked back a few unbidden tears. “Even if it isn’t any good. I have to try.”

Sir Guy’s expression softened and came to her side, taking her hands in his own.
“My dearest Ladywriter, I shall be your muse, provide that creative spark–of course, it will be good.” Sir Guy sniffed and flicked back his lustrous black mane.

“How could it be anything else?”

She laughed in spite of herself. “Indeed, you are right. How could it be?”  LW pressed a kiss to the back of his hand. “Thank you for the reminder . . .”

Happy Guyday Friday!

I’m impressed. A step-by-step fashion tutorial featuring Thorin

Fernanda Matias shared a link to this video by FashionARTventures at YouTube. The artist gives us a tutorial featuring her detailed illustration of Thorin, from his vambraces (arm bracers), coat and tunic to his luxurious mane of hair. I think she captures a good likeness of RA as Thorin here, and I also like that it’s all done freehand–no digital wizardry. Definitely worth a look! And thanks for sharing, Fernanda!

Polar Vortex? Pssshaw. Richard’s here to warm things up!

140127029Brrrrrrr! It’s 27 degrees F at 8:11 a.m., which isn’t that unheard of during the winter in Lower Alabama–except that we hit our high for the day a few hours ago and the temps keep continuing to drop, with a low of 10 frigid degrees and below-zero wind chill expected tonight. It’s colder here right now than it is in NYC. Yes, the Polar Vortex (cue ominous music) has arrived down south and is moving east. Another big mug of coffee, cuddly cats, cozy blankets are all called for. Hmmm, what else can I use to warm things up? Ah, I think I know . . . Happy Monday!BeFunky_801304059dd
