Cinemablend: Hannibal, HACF two of ‘great shows not nearly enough people are watching’

Standard

I was reading an article online the other day, and it recommended other stories, and somehow or another I ended up running across a link to a Cinemablend article by Jessica Rawden titled “7 Great Shows Not Nearly Enough People are Watching.” My curiosity was piqued and I had a look.

The number one show on their list? “Hannibal.” Of course, as you all surely know by now, Richard is currently filming his role in this critically acclaimed NBC series as serial killer Francis Dolarhyde, aka the Tooth Fairy, featured in the Thomas Harris novel and film “Red Dragon” (and the movie “Manhunter”).  Another show on the list which some of us found addictive during its freshman season, offering the “collateral attraction” of Thranduil himself, Lee Pace is “Halt and Catch Fire.”

Here’s what the article had to say about “Hannibal”—

‘NBC’s Hannibal is currently gearing up for its third season premiere. While the drama is probably one of the most-watched on this list, it has potentially been up for cancellation every season, thanks to airing on network television rather than on cable. This time around, NBC will air the series as part of its summer lineup, and we hope that will prove to be a good spot for the thrilling drama. Give Hannibal a watch; it may give you nightmares, but in this case, that’s a good thing.’

I am hoping the black humor and stylized approach to the murders reputed to be found on “Hannibal” will keep it from being too much of a stomach-churning experience for me. Then again, it’s going to feature the incredible Richard in six episodes of US television I don’t have to do anything of suspect legality to watch, so I will be on board anyway. 😀

The article says this about “Halt and Catch Fire”–

‘Halt and Catch Fire is one of the rare cable dramas with lower ratings that still managed to nab a second season on the network. It’s a tough series to sell, following the rise of a computer start-up in Texas and the various problems the team encounters as they attempt to do the impossible: create a brand new computer brand. Regardless, Halt and Catch Fire had one of the most compelling pilots we’ve ever seen, not to mention an intense first season featuring incredible performances from Lee Pace (Ronan in Guardians of the Galaxy) and Scoot McNairy (Argo). Maybe this time around, more people will be willing to plug in to the series. If not, it’ll stay on our under-watched programs list.’

I really do hope more people give HACF a chance–it definitely captured my interest in that first season, in spite of the fact I am not exactly a computer nerd (A nerd, yes. Computer nerd, no.) The series offers intelligent scripts, some fine acting on the part of Pace and Scoot McNairy in particular, and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and thinking. It’s a bit of a nostalgia kick, too. 😀

I am currently spending a week here with my sister and BIL . . . and packed the novel “Red Dragon” to read and the DVD of  BOTFA to watch on the computer at night when I can’t sleep.  So RA came with me–

–but then again, he always is with me. You all know what I mean. 😉

I’ve seen fire, and I’ve seen rain . . . Mr. A is having a wet, hot summer! *squee*

Standard

It’s the Summer of the Armitage! Richard is spending the next couple of months giving audiences an impassioned, impressive performance as the conflicted farmer John Proctor, adulterous husband embroiled in the Salem Witch Trials. I know I have shared this edit of mine before, but I like it so much I’m sharing it again. Hey, the beauty of having one’s own blog.

ramakeupedit13

So there he goes, setting London on fire . . .  this big, fit, beautiful, bearded man, acting his linen smock off (literally at one point. *heaves sigh*) and using that commanding presence, physicality and voice to enthrall once more.  And then turning up at the stage door to be as sweet and affable and accommodating as always. What a guy!

But we are ALSO getting more Armitage– a contemporary role as the clean-shaven all-American high school assistant principal Gary Morris, a widower caught with his sons in a deadly day of tornadoes in the (long-awaited!) August New Line release, “Into the Storm.”

Serv posted some screencaps earlier from the new trailer, and naturally, I couldn’t resist having some fun with Wet Gary, aka the Hunky Educator Hero in the High-Waisted Slacks. Do you all remember some of those promo stills that came out after they do some additional shooting for the film? When RA’s hair was still a bit longer on top (as compared to how it was cut for principal photography)? I do . . .  hmmmm, Gary must have been blown into some Miracle-Gro at some point (a fertilizer here in the US) and it went to town on his hair. 😉 I am sure most folks won’t even notice.

But I always think of Lucas and his Mysterious Travelling Tattoo . . .

I’ve been right smack-dab in the middle of a tornado (on the campus of the Alabama School for the Blind) and I’ve taught high school kids. And neither one is a picnic! 😉

Having been in a tornado, very close to the path of tornadoes and having seen on more than one occasion the deadly toll they can take and massive destruction they can cause, honestly, a twister movie is generally not my first choice in movie viewing.

But this disaster flick has Richard Armitage. Wet. Fatherly. Heroic. Trying out an American accent for the first time in a really measurable amount.  How can I resist??  A good mindless popcorn movie might be just what I need . . .

So, planning to go and see Mr. A in August? What are your thoughts on the trailer? His accent? Did you notice how great Sarah looked even bedraggled? (Curse her!) Eye candy for everyone in this pic–cute teens for the younger set and hunky and hot adults for the rest of us.  As for any of you lucky ducks who will be seeing Mr. A in person in the round at the Old Vic–please let me know about your experience! And now, it’s time to ice the Troublesome Wrist, boys and girls.

“Storm”-y silliness and serious stuff; or Help! I’m photo editing & I can’t quit

Standard

Remember tomorrow (Wednesday, June 25) is the premiere online of the newest trailer for “Into the Storm” at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, noon Central and 1 p.m. for the East Coast. In honor of the occasion, I’ve done a few tongue-in-cheek edits of some of the most recent promo stills for ITS. (Aren’t we glad they changed the name? Would hate to refer to an Armitage project as BS . . . just sayin’ . . .) And one more Proctor edit, because I swear that character is haunting me (and I haven’t and won’t see him on stage, unless they do make a DVD . . .) What can I say? It’s the Armitage Effect. 😉 And really, would we have it any other way?

The delightful & dashing Mr. A & Real Life Stuff with Fedoralady

Standard

So, I feel as if I am w-a-a-y  behind in terms of the Armitage blogs, FB pages, et cetera,  and keeping up with Armitage World these days. Part of it boils down to issues with my computer and my “Country High-Speed,” which is to say, not very fast at all. And there are problems with my Windows Live Mail, which of late is not very lively.  Still, it’s better than no internet at all (as I found out during that long week when I did without).

Part of it is that my mind is going in a thousand different directions (I really do begin to wonder if it’s all the FMS or if I have developed some sort of adult-onset ADD).

Now that April has arrived, Real Life gets much busier for us re community events and video production company work.  And I am doing more writing for pay–not a lot, but more. Yay! And part of it all is my sleeping patterns are all screwed up (perhaps even more than normal), so I am often not online when others of you are.  So–if you are reading this–“HELLO!” *waves cheerily and grins*

So–I have managed to do some photo editing in fits and starts involving our beautiful boy’s most recent appearances. Here are some examples of what I’ve done, some of which have already appeared on Pinterest and at my FB page, The Richard Armitage Effect.  I hope you enjoy, and I hope you are having a good week.

P.S.~ I got my Urban book this week–hooray!–but as I have been boning up on the finer points of our Papa Bear camera, I have postponed getting started on it. This weekend will be busy with three events–a family reunion luncheon and an outdoor memorial event to shoot for PRP Saturday, and our humane society’s Bark in the Park on Sunday, which we also plan to video and shoot stills for. Thinking of waiting to begin the book until next week . . . getting better and better at this delayed gratification stuff.

Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler! Happy Mardi Gras from Thorin & Co.

Standard

What can I say? I simply could not resist. Today is Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras, first celebrated in the U.S. NOT in New Orleans—but right here in Alabama, in our port city of Mobile. Mobile, like NO, has a number of organizations called krewes who participate in parades, parties and balls during the carnival season. My older sisters used to march with our high school band in Mardi Gras parades in Mobile every year. Those on the parade floats throw items to parade goers–beads being the most common, but souvenir coins and, here in Alabama, Moon Pies are among the goodies also tossed. Many smaller communities across the Gulf Coast also hold some type of Mardi Gras celebration. Here are a couple of links to learn more:
