Mr. A is a thing of beauty . . . so is his performance as Claude Monet. If you are an art lover, particularly of the Impressionist school and you haven’t yet seen The Impressionists, I encourage you to check it out. Monet loved flowers and said they might very well be the reason he became a painter in the first place. I live in a part of the world that has a long growing season, so the landscape never goes completely brown in the winter. There is always something green growing, something blooming . . . God’s artistry at work.
I have included a video of my own photographs to give you a glimpse of our blooming beauties here in the South, set to the beautiful music of Yo-Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer.

Sometimes here in South Alabama we have an extended summer, some winter with some cold and clammy damp days, and not a lot of spring and autumn. I really do prefer four distinct and separate seasons to experience and savor.
Our weather’s been really weird for weeks now in Canberra – some days can be rather humid (humidity’s not something we experience too often here – it can be 38-40 degrees with absolutely no humidity) but the temperature will be only 25-26 degrees.
We’ve had lots of overcast days recently, with some rain and the tiniest bit of hail one day. It’s just not like a usual summer.
Oh, yeah, we talk temperatures in Celsius, not Fahrenheit.
On our local Public Broadcasting channel – Knowledge Network – they are having a pledge drive right now and this evening when talking about documentaries they showed some clips of The Impressionists – and yes, some included our favourite actor 🙂 – so I emailed them to ask if they plan to air it sometime soon. It was such a thrill to see him pop up on my TV screen even just for a moment!! I naturally have the DVD’s but it’s always a good thing to have Richard seen by more people!
I know what you mean. When I still had satellite radio in the Jeep and Richard was doing the voice-overs for the Olympics, I would sometimes catch him on Radio 1.
It gave me quite the frisson of pleasure. 😉

Beautiful! We’re seeing buds and blooms here in Southern VA! Spring is here!!!
I haven’t been out much since the accident, but I am hoping we don’t have any more hard freezes to kill the buds and blooms just starting to show here. We haven gotten tons of rain of late so the drought shouldn’t be a problem.

So you’re a fan of Yo-Yo Ma. Are you familiar with Mark O’Conner or Jerry Douglas? Yo-Yo Ma has made several albums with them. Mark O’Conner can play anything. Jerry Douglas plays the dobro — one of my favorite musical instruments. I like the saxophone too and always wondered what the dobro and saxophone would sound like together. And then Jerry Douglas made an album with a composition featuring the dobro and saxophone. An unlikely combination, but it was great.
Forgot to say that here in Georgia, we’ve had daffodils in bloom for weeks. And my hycenthias are blooming too…the old fashioned kind that smell exquisite. They came from our home place and are at least 50 years old, but probably a lot older. I guess they would be considered heirloom plants. Nothing like the smell of daffodils to let you know that spring has arrived!
We’ve had so much dreary, rainy weather of late and I’ve been afraid to get out and about in the yard because of possibly losing my balance falling. I have fallen twice here in the house which set my recovery back.
Benny and i are going to go out to eat Saturday night–the first meal out in ages because my back couldn’t take it– and I am looking forward to the drive so I can see the landscape and what is starting to bloom. I remember every year at the farmhouse seeing the bright yellow daffodils and knowing spring had come.
I look forward to the wild roses that bloom on the banks, and the lilies that spring up and the sweet, intoxicating scent of honeysuckle . . . I even enjoy seeing the kudzu, because it really is pretty with its glossy green heart-shaped leaves. You just can’t stand still for too long or it will grow over you!
I actually have the Appalachian Waltz album with Yo-Yo Ma, O’Connor and Edgar Meyer. That is where I got the music for the blooming beauties vid and I used two more selections from it for Monet videos.
I was looking for cello music on iTunes and browsed to see what appealed to me. I liked the mix of classical with traditional mountain music–a great combination. I will have to check out Douglas, too. You are right, a dobro and sax seem like an odd pairing, but then i love cherry chili chocolate, and that doesn’t sound like it would work, but it does. 😀
Now if I could just see Richard playing the cello–that would be lovely.
